In our effort to allow you to journey with us as we create the three-part film series on Dr. Atif Malik's case, we have recently launched the Last Man Standing Podcast. The podcast has just been picked up by Apple and is currently available on iTunes and Stitcher.
Episode 1 is a general introduction to one of the key characters we are recruiting to help us with this case – attorney Sam Weiner.
Sam is a recently retired criminal defense attorney who we convinced to come out of retirement to help us with this project. Sam has more than 45 years of experience in criminal defense. Since he began helping we have learned a lot about how federal prosecutions are handled… we have been surprised, shocked and even angered as we have learned how the system really works – especially in Baltimore.
In Episode 2 we begin to establish the background of the case. In addition, we begin to look for answers to some very basic questions. For example, how did a humanitarian and successful physician like Dr. Malik, who was victimized by a crime he reported himself, end up in Federal Prison?
Frankly, there are a number of charges the prosecution filed against Dr. Malik that make no sense on their face. In addition, there were at least four key facts the defense was not allowed to enter into evidence during the trial – things the jury never knew.
After hearing this information, we want you to ask yourself: If the jury would have heard all of the evidence would Dr. Malik have seen even a day in prison?
The more we dig into Dr. Malik’s case the more we feel driven to help correct the record. We hope you will follow the production of the documentary series in the podcast and then watch Last Man Standing when filming is complete.
